Last Weekend In The Gold Coast

Last Weekend In The Gold Coast

After 3 amazing months of living in the Gold Coast it was finally time for us to move on, to continue our adventure up the East Coast.
Our last weekend was celebrated with Martyn, Sam and Maddy who had flown up from Sydney to visit.

Friday

Friday morning I met up with my work friend Teish for a farewell morning coffee and catch up.

It was lunchtime when Martyn and the girls arrived, once they had checked into their hotel we decided to have a BBQ for lunch. After picking up a few bottles of vino we took them to mine and Marcus's favorite BBQ spot by the beach.

The weather was perfect and we had a great lunch. We even managed to 'illegally' consume a few bottles of white without being caught.

We then took a lovely walk along the beachfront to our apartment.

It had been over 3 months since we had seen Martyn, Sam and Maddy so we had a lot of catching up to do!
Time flew by and it was then dinner time.

Marcus and I felt that it was only appropriate to choose Thai, as it was Martyn who had first introduced us to our now favorite cuisine.

We had a lovely dinner despite the waiter not accepting our English driving licences for wine we had taken which was rather amusing!

The night ended late with Marcus in tears after accidentally rubbing chili's into his eyes at dinner!

Saturday

We had a busy day ahead so it was an early start to fit everything in. After a delicious breakfast by the beach we drove to Tallebudgera Creek another one of mine and Marcus's favourite spots.

We were so fortunate that it was a beautiful sunny day.

Located just under the bridge was paddle board hire, we all decided to try our luck hiring two boards for an hour. Miraculously Marcus's paddle-boarding skills/balance had significantly improved since December, so it wasn't too bad sharing the board with him.

After a morning spent paddle-boarding and swimming it was then time for a leisurely walk around the National Park.
It's a lovely  scenic walk with great views out to sea and of Surfers. We were even lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins.

We then headed back to Martyn and the girls hotel for a quick swim before changing for dinner.

At Easter Marcus and I had found a great spot up Mount Tamborine to watch the sunset. The only problem we had was remembering the precise location! Annoyingly our satnav took us a completely different route to last time. By chance we managed to find the spot just in time before the sun setting.

Later on we set up the BBQ, it was a great idea and as we had all our camping gear in the car and we had a great picnic.

It was definitely easier navigating our way back down the mountain! We dropped our car off then made our way to the Irish pub to finish off the evening.

Sunday

We started the day early again with a breakfast BBQ'd on the beach. Following a delicious breakfast we set about hiring some bikes.
We all cycled 9km to the spit. It was a fun ride where we all had a few near misses with oblivious tourists ...
Neither Martyn, Maddy or Sam had been up to the spit before so it was great to be able to show them the amazing views.

On the way back we stopped off at Marina's cove for a much needed cold drink!

Once we had returned the bikes we then spent the remainder of the day on the beach.

Marcus and I had a great weekend and loved having the company of Martyn and the girls. It was the perfect way to end our time in the Gold Coast.

After our goodbyes it was then time to get packing!
