The Great Ocean Roadtrip Day Two

Day Two

We didn't stick around too long at the backpackers and after some very stale cereal we were on our way.

As we had enjoyed the 47km drive from Lorne to Apollo bay (the best bit of GOR) we decided to drive back and do it all again, this time stopping off at all the best vantage points. We also stopped off at one of the many beaches along the route, for a quick paddle.

From Apollo Bay the road then took us into the 'Otway National Park'. Heading away from the ocean we drove into the state forest, a complete change of scenery thats for sure!

After the national park we then started to head back towards to the ocean, our next stop was the '12 Apostles' although today there are only 8, and infact there were only ever 9 to begin with! Nevertheless they were still a spectacular site!

The next part of the journey was Port Campbell to Peterborough. We stopped of here at the Bay of Martyrs, here we had a stunning view of the bay.

Our next bit of the GOR was to Warnnambool (Renowned for it's cheese making). We didn't spend too long here only for lunch and to purchase a new tyre.

Sadly the GOR ended after Warnnambool, we then had to pick up the A1 which took us directly to Port Fairy to our overnight stop.

When we arrived our accommodation already looked 100% times better, although that would not have been difficult! Our 'Comfort Inn' felt like a 5 star hotel, unfortunately this made Marcus rather smug as he had booked it!

After consuming the majority of the complimentary biscuits we drove 10 minutes down the road to 'Griffith Island'. Renown for being a bird watching area neither of us had expected to see kangaroos! From an outsider we must have both looked crazy as we were both so excited! It was so good to see our first wild kangaroos, especially when we were not expecting!
10,000 pictures later and we headed back to the 'Comfort Inn', after a few ciders it was bedtime. We needed to be up bright and early the next day to drive back 400km to Melbourne CBD.
